A fabulous vintage Chanel camellia ring from the Spring Summer 2002 collection. Featuring glossy black resin with two very special codes of the House, the Camellia in cream creating the legendary monochrome vibe finished with a delightfully miniature interlocking CCs.
One of the most instantly recognisable emblems of this world-famous house the Chanel Camellia sports many guises, each unmistakeably synonymous with the brand. Mademoiselle Gabrielle ”Coco” Chanel said, ”there are many ways to wear a flower” and the camellia was indeed hers. Immortalised as a code of the House, evolving and taking reinterpretation in every collection. The camellia first made its discrete appearance in 1913. Worn by Coco strolling Etretat beach in Normandy. An exotic flower, the camellia comes from a family of native Asian shrubs with shiny evergreen oval shaped leaves and luxuriantly blooming flowers. There are thought to be around 120 different varieties of camellia. With infinitely more couture interpretations of nature’s beautiful flower there is a longevity to this code that is as fresh and relevant now as it was in 1913. A symbol of carnal desire, camellias arrived in Europe in the mid 19th century, accentuating the beauty of both aristocratic and society women; flattering their decollates and adorning their hair. Chanel”s interpretations of this flirtatious, seductive flower have incorporated as many materials as you can imagine including silk, organza, raffia, sequins, leather, chiffon, resins, feathers and so on. The camellia motif can be found in every facet of the House of Chanel from hair adornments to fabrics, to intricate hairstyles, to makeup, accessories, packaging and so on. It has become a hallmark of the House and a code that has lasted more than 100 years.
